Back together again...finally!

Two days after Christmas, our basement flooded. Today it is officially all put together...finally! On Dec. 27th, Dale and I were getting ready to go to the temple with his Mom. We were just about to walk out the door when Jadon said "Dad, the floor is all wet in the basement!" He had gone downstairs to get something to show Gladys before we left. It's a good thing that he did. I can't imagine what he would have done if he noticed it while we were gone and he couldn't get ahold of us. Needless to say, we didn't go to the temple. Dale ran downstairs and saw that our hose had been left on and was in Jadon's window well. Jadon turned off the hose and we quickly changed our clothes and started trying to figure out how to get all the water out of our basement. We didn't know what to do. Gladys called Darrell. He works for ECR, a company that cleans up floods and fires. He, and his friend, Ben saved us.
Darrell came over and told us what we needed to do. Luckily, his friend Ben was able to come over with all the equipment to help us get the water out of our house. All the black garbage bags are full of wet carpet pad. We ripped all the pad out of Jadon and Jaxon's room and the hallway.
Ben and Darrell hard at work determining how far the water went. Luckily, it didn't go into Dale's office.
We were in a frantic hurry to move everything out of Jaxon's and Jadon's rooms because everything was wet. We just shoved it all into the main room and Dale's office.
I was so disappointed because just that afternoon I had gotten all my Christmas boxes out so that I would be able to take Christmas down the next day. All of that stuff was immediately barried by all of their stuff.
Darrell has a cool little tool that detects water in the walls. They determined that there was enough water in the walls that they needed to take off all the baseboards and drill holes in the walls to let the water dry out.
Each room had about 5 huge, loud, noisy fans that were on all day and night so that the carpet would dry. They were on for 3 days straight. All I can say is that I was soooooo relieved the day they were turned off and it was quiet again.
This is how Jadon and Jaxon slept for over a week. Jaxon liked sharing a room with Jadon but Jadon got frustrated because his stuff was scattered everywhere and he didn't know where anything was.
After everything was dry, we had new pad put in and the carpets cleaned and put back down. Dale and Darrell put the baseboards back on and repainted them. They also had to repaint parts of the walls because of water damage to the paint. We finally were able to move all of their things back into their rooms! Yay!
When the carpet cleaners came, we had them clean some of the carpet upstairs as well. We have some places where the carpet is really loose so we decided to have them stretch the carpet and make it tight again. This caused a whole new project for me. I had to completely empty the rooms so they could do this. I didn't take a picture, but my room was full of everything from the upstairs. I did get it all put back together in one day and I am really happy because everything is so nice and organized now. I'm sure we will never forget when our basement flooded. I am happy everything is back to normal again and I am so thankful to Darrell for everything he did for our family!

Homemaker...at last

After 16 years of marriage, I finally did it. I felt like a true mormon mom today. I made Turkey noodle soup and homemade rolls from scratch!!!! I saved some of the turkey from Thanksgiving in the freezer because I wanted to make soup with it. I found the easiest recipe I could online. My friend, Suzy, has made these yummy rolls for our family before so I asked her for the recipe. I'm not sure why I picked today to do it because I was really busy today. Anyway, between volunteering at school and basketball games, I pulled it off (who cares that we didn't eat until 7:00 at night)! I was so impressed with myself. It turned out really yummy and the kids that were home even ate it! The rolls were soooo good. I told my kids these are only going to be made for special occasions and when I know I'm going to be home all day!

Our little sunbeam!

Today was Katie's first day of sunbeams. She really wasn't excited at all because she absolutely loves her nursery class. She loves to go to church and play with the babies, eat snacks and sing songs. I have been explaining to her about how we don't get to do that stuff in sunbeams. Why would she want to go? I am in the Primary presidency so I will be in sharing time with her. I have also been explaining to her that she can't some sit on my lap and talk to me during sharing time.
She actually did really well today. She sat on her chair just like she was suppose to. She loved singing time especially because they sang all the songs she had learned in nursery. The hardest part is that we have church at 1:00 which is her naptime so she really is tired at church. I'm just glad that I get to see her cute little face sitting on the front row every week!

Big girl bed

Katie is now in a big girl bed! Jadon recently got a new bed from our neighbor so Kierra talked us into letting her have his old bed. We were going to put Katie in a little toddler bed but this kind of forced a change into a full size, real big girl bed.
She was so excited and has done great in her new bed. She only gets out of her bed if Kierra falls asleep before her and she feels all alone. Taking her crib down and putting it in our storage room was really hard. It was so final. Thinking about the fact that there will be no more babies living in our home makes me so sad. I can't have babies forever though so the crib will stay in storage until I get to bring it out for my grandbabies!

New Year's at the cabin

We got to celebrate the new year at the cabin this year. I forgot to bring my camera so I didn't take any pictures. Luckily, Lisa got some good ones for me. We had fun on New Year's Eve just playing games and eating junk. On Sunday we all went to church. I always love going to church at the cabin and looking at the beautiful mountains during sacrament meeting. After sacrament meeting we got the best Christmas present ever...only sacrament meeting was being held that day. We got to go home and, after lunch, we all watched "17 miracles". It was a very good, but very sad movie. That night we played more games and then watched another great movie, The Help. Today we spent a lot of time outside. We all had a blast going sledding. The kids had a great time together and there was only one injury. Kamryn crashed into a tree but she's ok. After we cleaned the cabin, we stayed and played one more game. We had a great weekend. Now it's time to get back to a regular routine and start 2012! I hope we have a great new year!
