3 months old!

Katie is officially 3 months old today and I hope it is a day she never remembers! She had her first "sick" visit to the doctors. Yesterday she just wasn't herself. We couldn't get her to smile at us. She wasn't fussy, just not herself. By the evening she was getting fussy and through the night got worse. She was breathing funny, and grunting like she was gassy. She also wouldn't take her binkie so I thought maybe an ear infection but it didn't seem like that to me. In the morning we noticed that her urine smelled different. Luckily, I was able to get a morning appt. at the doctor. After some horrible, heart wrenching tests, we found out that she has strept throat and a urinary tract infection. The doctor gave us praise for catching on to the yucky pee smell. Having a sick little baby is the worst thing because there isn't a lot to do to make them feel better. She does get to take an anitbiotic so by tomorrow she should be lots better! Other than the sickness, she is a very happy little 3 month old. It has been a fast 3 months but we are enjoying every minute with her. I don't know if there has ever been a more loved little girl!

"I've got a hand!"

Katie is almost 3 months old and her latest accomplishment is the discovery of her hands. She first noticed them a few weeks ago but just this last week she has really started figuring them out. She will just sit with her hands in front of her and stare at them, frequently going cross-eyed. She likes to look at both of them together and then try to get them in her mouth. Yesterday and today she has started to try and grab the toy that hangs from her car seat. It is so much fun to watch her try and figure things out. She's growing up way too fast!!!

A trip to the dentist

Since my kids are off track, I decided it would be a good time to take them to the dentist. What a trip! I bet there aren't very many people that can fill up all the dental examination chairs and the x-ray machine with their own personal family. Well, we did. They had four chairs, with my kids in them, all playing the XBOX on the ceiling while the 5th one was getting X-rays done. My kids haven't been to the dentist in a long time (way too long) so I was very nervous about what the dentist would find. We didn't do to bad. Jadon, Jake and Kyson didn't have any cavities. Kierra and Jaxon, on the other hand, will keep our dentist from going hungry for the next year. Jake and Kyson didn't want to leave. When they were done, they asked if they could lay in these cool chairs and play video games. My dentist has a small merry-go-ground in the waiting room and he gives the kids tokens to ride it after they are done. I told his staff because of the small fortune that I gave them today, I own that merry-go-round now!

Happy Valentine's Day

Dale is always so sweet on Valentine's Day. When we came home from running some errands we found 2 boxes on our porch. They were flowers. One for me and one for Kierra. It's always fun to get flowers. They make a home so much prettier. I'm grateful to have such a thoughtful husband. That night we went out to dinner and a movie. It was a great Valentine's Day!

Science Fair

Jadon and his friend, Andrew, worked on their 6th grade science fair project together. They won for their school and went on to the district science fair. We went to the district fair on Friday night. It was pretty long and a lot of waiting. They didn't win but I was proud of him for working so hard on it and winning for his school!

A tribute to my sweet Jake

Jake turned 6 yesterday so I thought I would write a little tribute to my little guy. Jake is very sweet and has a very innocent way of looking at life. He says some of the funniest things and has no idea that he is even being funny. I've never known anyone like Jake. He has a fabulous memory. He knows a lot about a lot of things because of the commercials he watches. You can ask him what toy is in the happy meal at any fast food restaurant and he always knows them all.

Jake has such a great smile! He has the cutest little dimple. I love to see him smile when he is watching something on TV that is funny, when I come in the door and he sees me or when he's hiding under his covers waiting for me to tuck him at night.

Jake LOVES to go swimming. This picture is bad because of the steam that got on the camera but I had to put it in anyway. We went swimming for Jake's birthday and when we got there he just jumped in the water and said "I just love swimming". He wears this mask and stays under the water as long as he can, comes up for air, then goes back down again. He does this the whole time we swim.

Jake was born on My mom's birthday. Every year, since he was born, I have taken their picture together on their birthday. My mom says she gave her birthday away to Jake but Jake says it's still her birthday too. He likes that his Grandma has the same birthday as him.

Jake is a very giving kid. He will give anything to any of his siblings. He let all them play with all his new birthday things before he did. He just wants people to be happy. We love our sweet little boy. Happy Birthday Jake!

First Shots

Katie went to the doctor for her first shots today. I've been to more of these appointments than most people I know and it still doesn't get any easier. I'm glad that Dale is able to go with me because I'm not strong enough to do it alone. I just can't take that sad, hold your breath, cry. Other than the drama of getting shots, Katie did great. She weighs 14 lbs. and is off the charts just like the rest of my babies were at this age. I'm so thankful my kids are all so healthy.

My creative daughter

My kids are off track for the next three weeks. It's a hard time to be off track because of the snow and the kids can't play outside much. It hasn't been bad yet because of the WII. The kids aren't allowed to play the WII on school days so they've had fun having no restrictions. I've only heard "What can I do?" a few times. Kierra doesn't play the WII much but she is a very creative person. Just give her some paper, scissors and tape and she can come up with something to do. She spent several hours today making these Wizard of Oz characters out of paper. Her teacher at school collects wizard of oz characters so she's planning on taking them to school when they go back on track. I hope they survive until then.
