A shopping first

I went to Wal-mart today for a MAJOR shopping trip. I haven't gone much this summer because I've just been getting the food I need for various trips. We were out of everything! I brought Jadon with me and it's a good thing because I needed TWO carts! I tried to fit it all into one but when the pile of food was so high that things were starting to fall off I had to send Jadon to get another cart. I remember my mom doing this a lot when we were young but I've never done it before today. Is this a sign of my kids getting bigger and eating more? YIKES!

8 months old

Katie is 8 months old today. She is nearing the end of one of my favorite baby stages. For the last two months she has been so easy to take care of. She has been content to sit on the floor and play with her toys for quite a while. She loves to pick things up and play with them so we can give her almost anything and she entertains herself. She is just barely starting to move around. She can roll over and over to get across the room and is starting to scoot. Just this week she started figuring out how to get on her knees. Our world is really going to change when she learns to crawl. Our house isn't very baby proof. I guess we'll have to get out the gates and the cupboard locks again. One funny thing that Katie has been doing is growling. If one of the kids gets in her face or tries to take something away from her she growls at them. They, of coarse, think it's cute so they try to get her to do it. We think it's cute too but don't want her to become a brat so we discourage it. She is so much fun as she's learning so many new things. We sure do love our little "Katie-did"!

Teacher lists

I remember when I was in elementary school and the summer was coming to an end. Every day we would ride our bikes over to the school, hoping that the lists were posted showing who our new teacher was and who was in our class. It seems like we did it every day for a week before the lists were finally there. Now I get to go look at those lists as the mother but my kids are just as excited as I was. We always know when the lists are going to be posted so we don't go the school every day for a week. They posted the lists yesterday. The kids were all excited to go check them out. We were all very pleased! All the kids got the teacher they wanted. Each one has some friends in their class. It was weird to not have Jadon there checking for his teacher. I think we are going to have a great year!

Happy Birthday Jadon!

Yesterday was Jadon's 12th Birthday and I think he had a pretty good day. He started it out by going on a scout campout the day before. After he got home I took him shopping for a new suit. Shopping isn't his favorite thing to do but he did like getting a new suit. After we got home we all went out to dinner at Golden Corral. Before we left, Jadon asked Dale if he could drive around the block. And, as you can see by the picture, he let him. Jake and Kyson were both crying because they didn't want Jadon to drive. Jadon was thrilled!

Jadon had a great time at Golden Corral. It's amazing how much kids like buffets. They think it's great to be able to get whatever they want, especially ice cream!!!

After dinner, we went to Boondock's to go miniature golfing. Everyone had a great time. Jadon got a whole-in-one twice and was super excited about that. Dale still beat him but only by 7 points. By the time we got home, he was officially 12 years old. He always likes to stay up until the time that he was born which is 11:24 p.m.

Today Jadon was ordained as a deacon. This is one of those proud moments in a mother's life. I still can't believe that my first born is already 12 years old. Many times yesterday, I was remembering the day he was born. Jadon had a really hard time coming into this world but ever since he finally made it, he has been a really easy child to raise. He has always wanted to do the right thing. I love the relationship that I have with him. I love that he still wants to hang out with me. Sometimes, if I'm in my office or my room, he will just come and lay on the floor and talk to me. I love that he will still let me walk to school with him. I love that he always wants to go to Wal-mart with me to do the grocery shopping. I love how much he loves Katie. I love how much he loves his Dad and wants to be like him. I love what a wonderful scout he has become and how prepared he is for everything he does. I love how great he's doing in school (I don't love that I have to let him go to middle school!) I love that he knows how to work hard. I am so blessed to have such a great kid and I love him very much!

Our trip to Bear Lake

This last week we spent 5 days in Bear Lake with my family. We had a great time! We stayed in two condos that were really nice. We spent time at the beach every day on waverunners. My aunt Sandy and uncle Steve were nice enough to come up for a day with their boat so people could waterski. Dale got up on skis and Jadon came really close to getting up on a wakeboard. It was so fun to watch them while riding in the boat. (Sandy got some really good pictures of them but I haven't gotten them from her yet) Jake and Kyson's favorite thing to do was swimming in the pool at the condo every day. I had to make them get out of the water every day. They never wanted to be done. Jadon, Jaxon, Dale and I even tried our hand at tennis. That game definately looks easier than it is. It was fun to try though. The kids had a great time with their cousins.

On our way home on Friday, we sent to the Minnetonka cave. It is a really neat cave that is 1800 feet long. We went up and down 444 stairs to get in and the same 444 stairs to get out. The temperature in the cave was 40 degrees. The coolest part was at the end of the cave when they turned off the lights and we were in complete darkness. We couldn't even see our hand in front of our face. It was a neat place to see. To top off the trip, we stopped in Logan on the way home for some Aggie Ice Cream. That brought back some great memories of my days at Utah State University. I am thankful for my parent's generousity and willingness to take our families on these great trips!!!
